Protecting What Matters: Why We Don’t Market Bulletproof Products to Children
At National Body Armor, we manufacture and sell bullet-resistant backpack inserts and tactical backpacks — but let us be absolutely clear: we do not condone the sale or use of these products by children.
In recent years, we’ve seen an alarming trend of companies targeting parents with emotional marketing campaigns that promote bulletproof backpacks as a solution for keeping their kids safe at school. Some go as far as creating colorful, cartoon-themed inserts or “school-ready” tactical bags aimed at minors. This is not only irresponsible — it’s un-American.
Here’s the Truth
Most people don’t realize that in a Code Red lockdown situation — when seconds matter — children are often instructed to shelter in place, hide under desks, or lock themselves inside closets. They do not have time to grab their backpacks. In fact, most schools teach students to separate from their bags to eliminate distractions and ensure hands are free.
So let’s ask the hard question: If kids can’t access their backpack during a crisis, what exactly are you selling them? False hope.
We Refuse to Profit Off Fear
As a company founded by veterans of the body armor industry and built on a mission to save lives, we believe in personal responsibility, transparency, and truth. Our primary customers are law enforcement officers, private security professionals, and responsible adults who understand both the benefits and limitations of ballistic protection.
We draw a hard line here: targeting protective gear to children is opportunistic, misleading, and dangerous. It gives families a false sense of security and distracts from the real issues at hand — from access control in schools to trained personnel and real emergency planning.
This Is Not Who We Are
We are proud to be American-owned and operated. And being American means standing for truth — even when it’s inconvenient or less profitable.
So to those companies who are turning fear into marketing copy and exploiting concerned parents to move more units: shame on you.
At National Body Armor, we will never compromise our integrity for a sale. We’ll continue to offer ballistic solutions for professionals and civilians alike — but we’ll also continue to educate the public on what our products can and cannot do.
Stay Safe. Stay Informed.
And to the parents: your children’s safety matters to us. But the solution isn’t in their backpack — it’s in building safer communities, improving preparedness, and demanding accountability from those responsible for school security.
